Here can be found everything you will need to know about Familiars in the world of Day of Judgement Reborn.
Familiars are like partners to your character, bound to him or her for life. They have to learn to work together, to share space and their lifestyle together. They are animals, mythological or modern day, it doesn't matter. They are made of flesh and bones, but also have a spirit like humans do, and are born with your character at birth. No one really understands how a Familiar is determined when a person is born, but the prophecy says that Familiars are pre-destined to certain people by Fate. Whether this is true or not is up for considerable debate.
Familiars, however attached they are to their Masters, they are also free beings of their own. They can go as far away from their Masters as they wish, leaving for as long as they want. But no Familiar would ever leave forever, because the longing in their heart to be with their other half would be too great to overcome.
The bond between Master and Familiar can never be broken by any means known to man, and no Familiar can change Masters at any time. The Familiar your character is given (that you choose) is the one she or he is with for life.
Now, the problem of death. Though it may seem unfair to most, the sad truth is that, if a Familiar dies, say in combat or by disease (they cannot die of old age without their Master dying as well, because both are the same age), the Familiar's Master does not die. By contrast, if the Master of a Familiar dies, sadly there is no place for that lone-Familiar in the Alliance or the Rebellion, and they usually leave the land to far away places, if they can, and there, they die of grief and sadness. A character who's Familiar has died does not feel whole anymore, and will sometimes leave or ostracize themselves from the rest of their comrades. But they still do have a role to play and can still survive in the Alliance/Rebellion.
