The Serendith is, technically, the most ancient of the Guild's Sects, predating even Selinor's founding of the Guild. Selinor himself was the founder of this sect, which has been a bastion of magical power throughout the ages, being fronted by the most powerful Archmage who ever lived.
Following the original founding of the Guild, Selinor led a few magic students of the Serendith, teaching in a small cave overlooking the original Citadel. However, at that time, Selinor himself was not as skilled in the ways of magic, though he was a talented prodigy, he could have been defeated by other sorcerers at that time. Now that Selinor has returned, the cave that he originally taught in has become one part of the cave of trials, and though the Serendith still number fewer than any other Sect, there are significantly more of them.
Young Acolytes of the Serendith are carefully screened by Selinor. He teaches anyone who has the ability to manipulate magic, and wishes to learn, whether or not they show great promise. However, he must carefully ensure that none intend to rebel and lend their abilities to the Nomad Tribes.
The Serendith are allowed to wear robes of any colour they feel best suits their application of magic, healers are commonly white, earth mages brown, fire mages red, water mages blue, air mages grey, and necromancers green. Selinor's chosen colour is black, although he commonly wears other subdued colours for various purposes. These are simply the typical colours, and are by no means required, though no mage other than Selinor has chosen to don the Black robes in the Guild's history. Their emblem is a silver image of Selinor's staff surrounded by glittering mist on a black background, commonly worn on the backs of their gloves.
The mages are extremely few in number compared to the rest of the Sects, numbering about 1000 at most times. They will often use a staff or wand that was fashioned by Selinor or another teacher during training, and then be sent out to find a magical artifact during their trials, that they may then channel their magic through. Commonly, the mages carry either wands or staffs, though daggers are also used, and sometimes they choose to simply channel through their hands.
The Serendith are commonly known to assist the Dar'ren Kal in getting where they need to go, and gathering information, once they have mastered the use of teleportation spells.
The building of the Serendith in the Citadel is the Seren Tower, an immense structure about 500m in diameter and rising to a vast height of 3000 floors. Each floor has four rooms, one facing in each compass direction. The building itself is composed of some type of stone, but giant patterns of white, black, and shades of grey run along the walls constantly, flowing with the magic within. The air cracks around it with magical residue and powerful energy. From the outside it appears to be a massive obelisk, which was rent from the ground by Selinor's power 11 000 years ago at the birth of the Guild. No door is immediately evident to enter this structure, the entrance, and every door within requires the tracing of intricate magical patterns, and is symbolic of training, in that the more magic you learn, the higher you are able to go. Few mages have managed to make it past the 2500th floor, and none has ever passed the 2800th but Selinor himself. The top floor contains what Selinor described as "The most important rooms that ever existed," though it is unclear what these are. Its central staircase winds up the full 3000 floors, with hidden doors to access each floor, and there is rumored to be a hidden staircase that mirrors it. Teleportation by anyone other than Selinor is magically blocked within the tower, and this is the one part of training that is completed outdoors by the mages, aside from sparring with members of the other Sects.
