In the world of Day of Judgement, there are many different languages that can be spoken. The one spoken by most of the humans as well as most of the Familiars is called "Common". Any character coming from a village or town will probably know Common, and any Familiar who has either taken the time to learn themselves or been taught it will know it too. All Familiars can speak their own native tongue, instinctively.
Example: All snakes can communicate through hissing, all cats can communicate through purrs and meows, etc.
However, it is also an option whether your character has taken the time and effort to learn the native tongue of his or her Familiar. A certain character may enjoy talking out loud but in a language only their Familiar can understand to avoid using Common.
Note: Certain languages will have taken your character a lot longer to learn, as they have needed to find a way to compromise for organs that are not present in their bodies. A language 'based on' your Familiar's native tongue perhaps.
Example: it would be really hard for a human character to learn echolocation.
Characters and their Familiar's can communicate psychically because of the birth bond they share.
